Joe Grogan, Sr passed away Friday, December 2, 2011 in Winston-Salem, NC where he lived. Joe was a member of Clan Mackay North America and served as the National Treasurer from the late 1980's to the dissolution of the Clan organization in the early 1990's. Joe and his wife Angelia remained Clan members in the new organization Clan Mackay Society of the USA.
Joe married his sweetheart, Angelia Mackie, on November 10, 1945, and they recently celebrated their 66th anniversary. In addition to his wife, other survivors include his daughter, Molly Grogan Rawls (Jeffrey) of Lewisville and their children: Curtis Rawls of Seattle, Allen Rawls and Kevin Rawls (fiance'‚, Meredith) of Raleigh; son, Joe Grogan Jr. (Kris) of Winston-Salem; son, John Grogan (Denise) of Flowery Branch, GA; and his daughter, Krysten Necessary (fiance'‚, Michael); and son, David Grogan (Moira) of Durham, and their children: Kerri Grogan of Philadelphia and Sean Grogan of Winston-Salem
Joe served 4 years in the Army Air Corp during World War II. Before and after the war Joe was employeed by R J Reynolds Tobacco Company for 44 years. Joe was involved in several professional organizations related to his work and served on the Board of Directors for Bank of North Carolina, NCNB, Triad Bank, BB&T and the Winston-Salem Transit Authority. He also served as Chairman of Facilities & Services for the PGA Championship at Tanglewood Park in 1974, and later served as President of Tanglewood Park.
